Kyle Barnes from Walt Disney imagineering to judge 4th Annual Wine & Design: "Creativity Creates Courage"
August 21, 2014
Newport Beach, CA – SitOnIt Seating and IDEON are pleased to announce the annual Wine & Design gala taking place this year on Thursday, October 2, 2014. Entering its 4th year, the event has brought in over $75,000 for The Common Thread for the Cure, a foundation created to unite the furnishings industry in the battle against breast cancer. The theme, “creativity takes courage” is a quotation from Henri Matisse and captures the essence of the event – looking for creative ways to help in the fight.
Southern California and Chicago’s leading A&D firms will design unique wine labels for a selection of Russian River Vineyards wines: the award-winning Sonoma Coast 2013 Chardonnay and Russian River Valley 2013 Pinot Noir.
Environmental Design & Engineering Studio Principal of Walt Disney Imagineering, Kyle Barnes will judge this year’s event. The wines will be served at Wine & Design and will be available for purchase on the Russian Rivers Vineyard website for one year following the event.
Designers, industry partners and guests will enjoy this year’s venue, the Newport Dunes Resort. The 110-acre resort is located in Newport Beach, Orange County California, at the entrance to the Back Bay Nature Preserve and the Newport Bay Conservancy. The mile of beach front will serve as the perfect backdrop for the event.
Wine & Design began as a small fundraiser at The Muth Interpretive Center, and was the vision of Mike Mekjian, Principal of SitOnIt Seating and IDEON. The event has grown each year.
“Last year’s event set records for participation and fundraising, putting us a step closer to our goal of making Wine & Design a national industry event. We couldn’t be more excited about our guest judge, Kyle Barnes, who is Art Director at Walt Disney Imagineering. This year’s event promises to be the biggest and best yet, thanks to our hard working volunteers and Elise Ozawa, from Momentum Textiles and the returning Chair of Wine & Design. Russian River Vineyards has put together an exciting offering of the Russian River Valley 2013 Pinot Noir and the Sonoma Coast 2013 Chardonnay. I’m proud to see the event grow and have high hopes for what we can accomplish together,” Mike Mekjian, Principal, SitOnIt Seating and IDEON.
In 2013, over 45 labels were created and entered into the competition. Winning labels were created by a leading design firm from Chicago, Nelson and Perkins and Will and from Southern California, LPA and Robert Borders.
Momentum’s Elise Ozawa is proud of the way the event just keeps growing: “it’s really amazing, when we present the event year after year, how many people we are educating about this charity. New designers and industry partners who didn’t know this charity existed and was available to them get to learn about The Common Thread for the Cure. And the momentum keeps growing year after year!”
Sponsorship opportunities are now available. Please visit www.wineanddesign.org for more information on this year’s event.
